Surfing Activity was helps the work productivity of employees because they are ‘refreshing’ the body and mind. The resulting effect is even more superior than the coffee break activity.
These results obtained from a study conducted by researchers from the National University of Singapore. They are researching as much as 96 scholars who were then divided into 3 groups: control group, “rest-break” web-surfing group and the group.
All of this group was initially asked to highlight the letters contained in a text for 20 minutes. In the next 10 minutes, the first group (control group) were asked to perform other simple tasks, while the second group (rest-break group) are allowed to do anything except surf activities. Then the third group (web-surfing group) are welcome to browse.
The results of a study titled “Impact of Cyberloafing on Psychological Engagement” shows that the third group is more productive and effective in doing the task than the other two groups. They also reported to have higher levels of mental fatigue, boredom low.
It turned out that the activity of browsing on the internet known to have a refresh function, activities like coffee-coffee or snack. Why? Because when you are browsing, people tend to choose those sites that they like.
“Browsing the internet has a good refresher function,” the researchers said.
These positive effects and the resulting increase in productivity even more pronounced than other activities such as calling, SMS’s or send email. Quoted from the WSJ on Monday (8/22/2011), similar results are found in a second study examined 191 adolescents.
